Now that I live in San Francisco and summer is a foreign concept, these still give me that feeling, but with more structure and with leather rather than rubber. The foot bed is heavy cotton that feels cool (rather than sticky like rubber beach shoes) and is molded to give it moderate arch support and a modest concavity for the ball of the foot. The leather thong is nicely crafted of pebbled leather. Extremely comfortable - more so than a flat rubber beach shoe due to the moderate support and shaping to the foot. I love mine. However, they are not made for people with high insteps (strap cuts into top of foot), which is true for every pair of Clark's shoes that I've tried. The width is normal -- not too narrow. They are cute and I would keep them if they fit my instep better.
